Apple is making significant progress in its environmental initiatives, reporting a substantial increase in clean energy usage and advancing its water replenishment projects. On April 17, the tech giant announced that along with its suppliers, it now utilizes over 18 gigawatts of clean energy, marking a significant rise from the 13.7 gigawatts reported in 2020.

The company’s push for sustainability doesn't stop at clean energy; it is also on track to achieve its goal of replenishing 100% of the fresh water used in its corporate operations by 2030. Recent projects include nearly 7 billion gallons in water benefits over the next 20 years, aimed at restoring aquifers and rivers and enhancing access to clean water.

Lisa Jackson, Apple’s Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, emphasized the dual focus on transforming electrical grids and restoring watersheds as crucial for building a cleaner future for all. “Clean energy and water are foundational to healthy communities and are essential building blocks for a responsible business,” Jackson stated.

In addition to environmental efforts, Apple is tackling accusations of "greenwashing" head-on, with CEO Tim Cook stating in October that Apple aims to be transparent and hopes its environmental actions will inspire others. "We want to be very open because we want to be copied," Cook remarked, emphasizing the broader impact such transparency can have.

As Earth Day approaches, Apple's ongoing investments in various global projects underline its commitment to not just meeting its environmental pledges but also setting a benchmark for corporate sustainability.
